Sathien Tumtavitikul, M.D. is a recognized general surgeon in
Thailand in the fields of laparoscopy, endoscopy, breast surgery,
hernia surgery and gastrointestinal surgery. After graduating from
the Chulalongkorn University Medical Faculty, he trained in
General Surgery at Fairview General Hospital, Cleveland, Ohio,
being the chief resident in 1983-1984. He became a diplomate,
American Board of Surgery in 1986. He practiced general
surgery in San Antonio, Texas, during 1985-1992. In 1991, he was
the first to introduce laparoscopic surgery to Thai surgeons in
Bangkok, and conducted laparoscopic training courses in the
following years, and was awarded by the Royal College of
Surgeons of Thailand. In 1993, he returned to Bangkok and
enjoyed practicing a wide range of general surgery, presently at
Vichaiyut Hospital. He is the founding member and served
leadership roles of Laparoscopic and Endoscopic Surgeons of
Thailand (LEST). He served as a governor for Endoscopic and
Laparoscopic Surgeons of Asia (ELSA). He is the founding
member and past president of Thai Hernia Society (THS) and
also the past President of the Asia-Pacific Hernia Society (APHS).
He was a member in the HerniaSurge Group that formulate the
International Guidelines for Groin Hernia Management. He
served as a section editor for Hernia, The world Journal of Hernia
and Abdominal Wall Surgery.
