Trained in Italy and the USA, he practices elective and emergency general surgery procedures with a particular emphasis on laparoscopic, bariatric, and abdominal wall surgery. He is committed to developing national and international surgical guidelines on emergency and laparoscopic surgery, most of which have been published in high-impact international journals. He was the Chair of the Italian national guidelines about the laparoscopic treatment of ventral hernias developed according to the Italian National government policy included in the National Guideline System in 2022, Dr. Campanile authored numerous and frequently cited scientific papers and book chapters. He is an active editor and peer reviewer for several international journals.
