Graduated in Medicine on 1977 at the University of Palermo (Italy), Prof. Giuseppe Amato specialized in General Surgery in Germany where he worked at the Surgical Clinic of the Academic Hospital University Frankfurt in Hanau, and at the Thoracic and Cardiovascular Clinic of the University Göttingen. Returned to Italy 1987, served as senior surgical consultant in various medical institutions in Italy. From 2016 to 2020 was appointed as Professor of Abdominal Wall and Hernia Surgery at the Postgraduate School of General Surgery of the University of Cagliari. Since 2016 nominated consultant professor at the University of Palermo. Has carried out studies in physiopathology and surgery of the abdominal wall and developed new therapeutic strategies and devices. Among these, the ProFlor technique for inguinal hernia repair with a 3D dynamic regenerative scaffold and a fixation free technique for ventral and incisional hernia repair with a proprietary tentacle mesh.
