Under his Governorship, he developed the program “ Surgeon for the New Colombia,” taking 50 of the best surgical residents in Colombia, chosen under strict scrutiny, to the ACS annual meeting at no cost, sponsored by the non-medical Industry. This program has inspired young Colombian surgeons to pursue excellence. He is a past President of the Colombian Surgical Society, awarded the prestigious “Master in Surgery” for his exceptional contributions. He has been the director of clinical immersion courses on the eTEP technique for hernia repair for over two decades. Hundreds of Latin American surgeons have benefitted from this program. More recently, He has conducted similar courses on Bariatric procedures, and the revolutionary autonomic neural blockade during minimally invasive procedures, an innovation he and his team developed. He is the pioneer of the Enhanced- view totally extraperitoneal( eTEP) approach for hernia repair and the leading author of the critical view of the myopectinel orifice, a series io steps that helped standardize minimal invasive inguinal hernia repairs. In addition to his national achievements, Dr. Daes is an active board member and the current treasurer of the American Hernia Society, recognized with the Nyhus-Wantz Award for his advancements in hernia surgery. Moreover, the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES) honored him with the International Ambassador Award, acknowledging his global impact.
